Rep. Skyler Rude introduces House Joint Memorial 4003 urging Congress to restrict Russian oil imports
Rep. Skyler Rude has introduced House Joint Memorial 4003 which supports Congressional efforts to immediately restrict all future purchases of petroleum and other hydrocarbons from Russia.
“Many of us are deeply troubled by the invasion of Ukraine. Over the last week, we have watched as civilians are killed and cities are destroyed, yet international relations are within the jurisdiction of the United States government,” said Rude, R-Walla Walla. “In the state House of Representatives, we’ve seen a resolution honoring Americans of Ukrainian descent and a bill to require all state agencies to divest public funds from Russia. This House Joint Memorial is essentially a letter to Congress, from the Legislature, urging them to ramp up sanctions on Russia by targeting oil. Oil represents a large revenue economic generator for Russia, so it makes sense to target it for sanction.”
House Joint Memorial 4003 states, in part: “Washington stands firmly in support of Ukraine’s sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity and strongly condemns Russia’s military actions against Ukraine, and supports the United States Government ending all business with Russia that helps to finance and sustain Russia’s unprovoked acts of war.”
The 2022 legislative session is scheduled to adjourn March 10.
